The Madwoman in the Attic: The Woman Writer and the Nineteenth-Century Literary Imagination - Sandra M. Gilbert, Susan Gubar

This book literally saved my life when I was doing Pre-U English. I particularly liked the chapter on Snow White. Full of really interesting ideas and relatively easy to read, which is rarer than you might think.
